THE MASTERING PROCESS

Once your project is mixed, the next stage of mastering is a subtle yet integral final step before your music will be sent to press. Balancing track volumes, track spacing, stereo imaging, compression and taming any trouble-spot frequencies helps to ensure that your album flows from start to finish and sounds its best. CD-text and ISRC coding of your music will be applied to the final product so it is retail-ready.

HOW TO DELIVER YOUR FILES

DIGITAL FORMATS

24-bit stereo WAV. But I will accept stereo or dual-mono data files in the following formats: AIFF, SDII and WAV. 16-bit files are acceptable, but 24-bit is preferred. If you are sending your files on a disc, data discs are generally much better than audio CD-Rs.  Due to the fragility of cd/dvd-rs, two copies of the cds are much appreciated.

PROJECT INFORMATION

You will be required to fill out the mastering project sheet which will detail your playlist order, track names, UPC and IRSC codes and contact info.

CD-TEXT

CD-Text enables a cd player to read information such as the album/song titles. Please include this information exactly as you would like it to appear and please watch for spelling errors!

ISRC & UPC

A CD master can contain numerical data which can assist in tracking of radio play and royalties. ISRC (International Standard Recording Code) numbers are generated by a record label or distributor and are attached to each track on a CD master. These numbers are specific to each version of a recording of a song and are used for a variety of purposes beneficial to the artist, including tracking of royalties from satellite radio play, digital download sales, etc. There is no cost for this service. You simply need some affiliation with a label or distributor authorized to generate them. For more info on ISRC follow this link. UPC/EAN codes are also typically provided by a label and this simply embeds in the disc the same code that is in the barcode on the outside of a CD.
EXAMPLE

First you will hear the original recording, then the same passage will play with the mastering process applied.
